General Motors (GM) CEO Mary Barra refused to say that a possible sale of its Opel European business to PSA Group was on the cards on Tuesday, in what is a step backwards from a previous confirmation of the possibility on its own website.
Speaking at the Economic Club of Washington, Barra was only willing to confirm it was ‘exploring opportunities’ for Opel, which has lost money for 17 years.
PSA and GM are in conflict over where Opel cars can be sold, with PSA wanting to sell them globally, but GM wanting to restrict the licences to block them from specific regions including two core markets for GM, the US and China.
