Fears remain over economic impact of Brexit

Slovakia has raised concerns that the UK’s decision to leave the European Union could stunt growth if trade to the UK falters. Slovakia's is the UK seventh-biggest trade partner so a downturn or reduction in demand would have a substantial impact on the economy, ministers fear. The warning comes as the UK struggles to secure a strong negotiating position ahead of the start of its formal departure from the EU, which is expected to be triggered in January or February. Politicians in the UK are determined to introduce limits on immigration, but countries which remain in the EU insist that free movement of people across borders will be a non-negotiable element of any future trade agreements between the EU and UK.
