Manufacturers will have to introduce extended test drives more widely to persuade larger numbers of drivers to adopt EVs, an industry expert has warned.
Michael Potter, managing director at Fleetdrive Electric, told delegates at a Green Fleet workshop that it takes time for drivers to understand the benefits of electric motoring and this often isn’t possible during one-day test drives because there isn’t time to get used to the car.
He said: “It takes about 10 days to get used to an electric vehicle, including the cycle of charging and how it drives. You can’t give someone a car for one day and expect them to get it, because it is often an emotional decision and it takes time to win hearts and minds.”
Spending a longer period with cars enables customers to overcome their two biggest concerns about electric motoring, which are battery range and recharging, he said.
